Apple iPhone 12 vs. Samsung Galaxy S20

Apple and Samsung, like all those previous years, lead the smartphone industry in the year 2020. Apple with its 5G support and Samsung with ever-impressive specs and features bring the best smartphones to their fans. Both Apple and Samsung launched the iPhone 12 and Galaxy S20 lineups, respectively, this year. Both these lineups comprise multiple handsets.
In this article, we will compare the iPhone 12 and Galaxy S20 to have an overview of the specs and features of both. We will be comparing the base models of both to keep things pretty simple.
Size and shape
Both phones are pretty similar in terms of size, though the Galaxy S20 may be a fraction wider, longer, and thicker. It comes with dimensions of 6.0 by 2.7 by 0.31 inches (HWD). The iPhone 12, on the other hand, comes with 5.8 by 2.8 by 0.29 inches in terms of overall dimensions. Both these phones weigh 5.8 ounces, with a difference of only one gram.
The iPhone 12 comes with a glass sandwich design. The S20 uses more rounded edges. Both these phones comprise aluminum bodies and IP68 ratings, meaning that both these phones may survive in 4.9 feet of water for more than 30 minutes. Both these phones are available with plenty of color variations.
Hardware
The iPhone, regardless of what model you choose, is characterized by the purity of hardware used in the composition. The iPhone 12 is no different. With the A14 Bionic chipset, the iPhone 12 seems to outperform the Galaxy S20 in terms of processing power. The Galaxy S20 uses Snapdragon 865, which is also a top performer in the Android arena. With even the A13 chipset performing better than Snapdragon 865, the A14 chipset is sure to beat the competition quite comfortably.
Display
Both these phones use OLED, which delivers displays with crisper details, vibrant colors, and impressive contrast. The Galaxy S20, however, tends to be more impressive, thanks to its higher screen resolution compared to that of the iPhone 12. With a 6.2-inch display, the S20 offers a screen resolution of 3,200 by 1,440 pixels. The iPhone 12, on the other hand, has a 6.1-inch screen, which has a resolution of 2,530-by-1,170 pixels. What’s even better is that the S20 comes with a screen refresh rate of 120Hz, which means a smoother movement of content along different dimensions of the screen. All in all, the Galaxy S20 may very well be a winner in terms of display.
Cameras
Both these handsets come with incredible camera systems. The iPhone 12 base model, however, may not have as strong camera specs as the ones in the pro model of the lineup. The standard iPhone 12 contains a 12MP wide-angle lens and a 12MP ultra-wide angle lens. There is also a 12MP TrueDepth selfie camera on the front.
The Galaxy S20 seems to be more impressive from the perspective of camera hardware. Two 12MP lenses for wide-angle and ultra-wide photography and a pixel binning 64MP f/2.0 telephoto camera make the camera setup of this phone quite impressive. This phone also has a 10MP f/2.2 selfie camera.
With Apple using more potent software to run its camera system, the photos you get from an iPhone 12 will be more impressive compared to S20. It, however, doesn’t mean that the S20 photography is flawed in any sense. It is just a comparison between the best and better.
